Hello!
So Carey Shimai and I are staying together for another transfer here
in Fukuoka! Super excited because I didn't want to miss Tomoko's
baptism, which is this Saturday!
We had a great week! We started teaching like 4 new investigators this
week. The work is progressing and we're trying to hold on! The
highlight of my week was definitely yesterday. We planned to review
the baptismal interview questions and talk about enduring to the end
yesterday before church with Tomoko San and the bishop, so he could
get to know her and see how he can help fellowship her after she is
baptized. We decided to fast so that everything would go smoothly,
because sometimes Tomoko gets way distracted and goes off about weird
stuff in the lessons. We couldn't believe how well it went. Tomoko
San was super focused in the lesson, didn't go off onto any random
tangents, answered everything honestly and to the point. It was
amazing. She has been struggling with remembering to say " Dear
Heavenly Father" when she begins a prayer. She just like goes into
saying things she's grateful for, etc. but yesterday was the first
time she began with no reminders, "Dear Heavenly Father". I had bowed
my head and closed my eyes and when I heard her say that I began to
cry. I KNOW that the Lord was with Tomoko San yesterday. We fasted and
had a prayer of faith in our hearts that all would go well and it did.
I have such a strong testimony of the power of fasting. I was also
able to get so much more out of Sacrament Meeting yesterday. I thought
of some more symbolism with the water and bread and know that it was
because I had been fasting. What a blessing it is to receive more
revelation and personal insights when we fast. Tomoko is getting
interviewed on Tuesday and then baptized on Saturday. Please keep her
in your prayers!
We met a Philippino girl on the street a few weeks back, made a return
appointment, and then she didn't show. Well, we found her housing this
week and she invited us back. We went back the next day and her sister
joined in on the lesson and we invited them both to be baptized. They
need permission from their parents, but we have high hopes for them.
We sang a hymn to them at the end and the older sister, Katricia,
began to cry. I'm so grateful for the power of music!
A member in the ward is in the hospital so we visited her and sang for her, and
she loved it. She has to stay for three more weeks! The Relief Society
sisters here are so good and are making sure she has a visitor every
single day. We also got to volunteer feeding the homeless again and it
was such a good time!
We had a lesson with one of our other investigators, Nori San. She is
kind of interesting and says she already believes in everything we
taught her and that she doesn't need the Book of Mormon, etc. Well, she
does! Haha. After the lesson she wanted to "change the flavor" of the
water that was in my water bottle. She put it in the ground, put her
hands around it, closed her eyes, and then concentrated really hard
for like 2 minutes. She claimed to have changed the taste to make it
more "soft" tasting. It tasted exactly the same to me ... haha. She is very
interesting!
We found a guy on Monday named Kaz and have already had 2 lessons with
him this week and he is progressing. He is chotto hard-headed about
Buddhism, but says he wants to change and be a better person. We will
see if he keeps his commitments from the last lesson!
We met a girl on the street named Stephanie; she is full Japanese,
born and raised here in Japan . But her grandma lives in Aliso Viejo
and her uncle works at the Cheesecake Factory at the Mission Viejo Mall.
Haha, what a small world! This week I also saw my first shooting star
ever in my life! It was awesome!
That's all for this week! Love you all! I love this work and I love
giving the Lord 110% every single day. 'Til next week!
Love,
Klein Shimai
